In 15 sessions, this course will provide an introduction to biblical Hebrew for students with basic Hebrew reading skills. We will learn pronouns, inflect nouns, conjugate verbs, and acquire adjectival awareness. Homework will be a must for this course; students who are prepared to work hard will be richly rewarded with the ability to read and translate much of the biblical narrative. Required textbook: The First Hebrew Primer for Adults by Simon, Resnikoff and Motzkin, EKS Publishing. Approximately $35 on Amazon. Please purchase in time for the first class. Fifteen sessions on Monday mornings (11:00am-12:30pm) beginning January 9. Meet the 12 women who appear at the start of the book of Exodus. Learn about Miriam, Yocheved and Tzipporah in new ways. Examine laws pertaining to women in the law code of Exodus, midrash pertaining to women in Egypt and in the wilderness and the role of women in creating the Mishkan (Wilderness Tabernacle). Learn about the 5 daughters of Tzeloph'chad who bracket the new generation of Israel in the book of Numbers. No prerequisites except the desire to learn and a complete Hebrew-English Tanakh.
