Community

HospitalityTemple Israel is a true community, as it brings together congregants who have taken many different roads in their Jewish journeys and creates for them an atmosphere in which everyone–both young and old–enjoy working together. Our synagogue is situated in New Rochelle, a city in which residents are proud of diversity and of the fact that people of many different backgrounds work together here in a climate of tolerance and inclusion. We are truly blessed to live in a municipality that embraces varied ideals and cultures. At Temple Israel of New Rochelle, we celebrate the broad spectrum of beliefs, customs, and traditions within Reform Judaism. Our synagogue has always focused on our similarities rather than our differences. Regardless of one’s spirituality, his or her decision to wear a yarmulke or talit, or one’s political affiliation, an individual is welcome and encouraged to follow his convictions at TINR. There are many ways in which each person can practice Judaism at TINR. Whether it is by supporting civil rights causes, raising money for the less fortunate, or cooking meals for grieving families, our congregation loves to come together to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Here, the TINR family collaborates to make our Temple, neighborhood, and world into gentler, safer, and better places in which to live. A sense of community and a desire for Tikkun Olam is what draws people to Temple Israel.
