Chanukah

tinrn August 8, 2012 Uncategorised

Chanukah, or the Festival of Lights, brings light into the darkest time of year: the deep of winter. The holiday is one of pure joy–a commemoration of the Maccabees and their small army defeating the Syrio-Greek oppressors who desecrated the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. While restoring the ancient shrine, a miracle took place; a jar of oil that was meant to light the Temple for one day lasted for eight. Because of this, we light candles and celebrate for eight days today.

At Temple Israel, we take our celebration of Chanukah seriously! Chanukah festivities abound. From our Early Childhood Program’s party to our congregational soiree with live music, no one is left out. Latkes are eaten, candles are kindled, songs are sung and revelry of just about every kind takes place. Grab your menorah and partake in the fun.
