Learners in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade attend Chavaya one day a week. Our goal in these early grades is to foster children’s sense of Jewish identity, create community, and lay the foundation for Jewish learning. In addition to learning about the Jewish holidays, students are introduced to Torah stories, parts of the synagogue, and conversational Hebrew. Educators focus on developing creative, fun, and interactive Jewish experiences.
Learners in Third through Sixth Grade attend Chavaya two times per week. This additional learning time allows youth to more deeply explore Judaic Studies concepts as well as concentrate on Hebrew. In these years youth learn to read Hebrew and recite the major prayers in our prayer service. Judaic Studies sessions focus on Bible, God, Life Cycle, Jewish History, and Israel. In addition, all groups include a unit based on Jewish values and ethics..
