Shavout

urjnetworkadmin November 8, 2011 Holidays

The holiday of Shavuot commemorates our ancestors’ receipt of the Torah at Mount Sinai. We celebrate this momentous biblical experience with prayers and readings that highlight the centrality of the Torah to the Jewish people, recitation of the Ten Commandments, and celebration of the Confirmation of our tenth graders.

On Shavuot morning, the Confirmation class leads the service along with the clergy. Included in this service is a special presentation on a theme chosen and researched by the tenth grade class. Following the service, confirmands and their families celebrate with a traditional Shavuot dairy lunch.
